Gao Minglu to Preside Over Jury At Award Ceremony, To Be Held April 23 At CAFA Art Museum With the Chinese art world bouncing back from its post-economic-crisis dip in recent months, a number of upcoming events in Beijing are set to celebrate the resilience of Chinese art over the course of 2009. Later this month, the first of these events -- the 4th annual AAC award ceremony for the "most influential participants in Chinese art" -- is set to take place at Beijing's CAFA Art Museum. The theme of this ceremony, also referred to as the "Oscars of Chinese art," centers around the Chinese art world's year of "Accumulating Strength to Overcome the Crisis," and includes a jury of renowned curators, critics, market observers and publishers, presided over by the influential art critic and scholar Gao Minglu. From Xinhua: Awards will be given out in categories that include Artist of the Year 2009, Youth Artist of the Year, Exhibition of the Year, Art Publication of the Year, as well as special contribution and lifetime achievement awards. This year's Artist of the Year award is divided into six sub-categories, allowing artists of more genres to win. The Public-Spirited Artist Board is a new addition this year in an effort to promote public collection. A chart is being compiled to chronicle Chinese artists' donations of their works to public art institutes since 1949. It will then be released every year at the AAC Awards ceremony.
