    There’s no doubt that there are some truly massive Chinese brands that are likely set to grow to even more enormous proportions in the years to come, but when it comes to Chinese luxury companies, most still lag behind international giants. A new report by Millward Brown that assesses the top 100 Chinese brands pulls names from all sectors, and shows that luxury brands are decidedly sparse on the list in comparison to other industries, such as tech.

    As London sees a huge influx of Chinese visitor spending thanks to efforts by both the UK government and retailers, luxury department store Harrods is engaging its Chinese visitors with a new online-to-offline (O2O) Sina Weibo campaign for Christmas.

    On the 1990s-style website for the US$6 billion-dollar “China City of America” is an outline of plans for what looks like a mashup of Epcot, Las Vegas, a resort town, and a college town, featuring literally every money-generating aspect that can be crammed in: a hotel, a museum, a casino, a college, and condos, as well more “cultural” aspects such as a reproduction of the Temple of Heaven and an “ethnic pavilion” showcasing China’s ethnic minorities in a typical patronizing style. Hands down, the main highlight has to be the “center” of the whole complex, which is—what else?—a shopping mall shaped like the Forbidden City divided into themed sections based on the 12 zodiac animals. And of course, theme park rides.

    Maison & Objet Launches Interior Décor Gateway To China#

    Interior design is big business, and no one knows this better than SAFI, the organizers of Maison & Objet—a preeminent interior décor fair that has been a highlight on international art and design events calendars since it was first held in 1995. Taking place in January and September every year, the Paris event draws more than 3,000 furniture design leaders and over 85,000 visitors. Given its international appeal, Maison & Objet is debuting an Asian edition in Singapore scheduled for March 10-13, 2014, which is bound to attract buyers from across China.
