    Adidas Originals, Edison Chen to release co-created shoe#

    Adidas Originals and Edison Chen recently announced  the release of a co-created shoe, Clot Superstar by Edison Chen. The collaboration aims to integrate the “legacies” of both major brands.

    Crocs unveils global brand envoy#

    Crocs today announced  singer and dancer Liu Yuxin as its new global brand ambassador. In the accompanying poster, Liu is seen wearing black Classic Clogs, Stormtrooper clogs in the brand’s Frozen Earth color, and black Snow Bound sandals.

    Balenciaga to present show in Shanghai#

    Balenciaga will hold  its spring 2025 women’s and men’s collection shows in Shanghai on May 30. It will be Creative Director Demna’s Asian debut for the label, and will be the third overseas show for Balenciaga following the 2023 Spring Series in New York and the 2024 Series in Los Angeles. This is one of the largest events for Balenciaga in the Chinese market in recent years, signaling the brand’s further investment in Chinese consumers.

    Guangzhou firm locks horns with Marc Jacobs#

    Marc Jacobs is urging  the New York federal court to dismiss a lawsuit that centers on the “Tote Bag” trademark. The lawsuit was filed by Guangzhou-based handbag retailer Guangzhou Xiao Ling Wan Trading Co., accusing Marc Jacobs of “fraudulently claiming trademark infringement and ultimately leading to the removal of three handbag styles from their listings on Amazon.”

    Pharrell Williams, Tyler team up#

    Louis Vuitton's Men’s Fashion Creative Director Pharrell Williams recently announced  a collaboration project with American rapper Tyler. A brand-new capsule collection designed by him will be released as part of the 2024 Spring Series on March 21, featuring golf-inspired knitwear and a special edition Courrier Lozine 110 suitcase priced at 68,000 euros ($73,645). This is Williams’ first artist collaboration project since taking on the role.

    Marraige rate rises in Chinese cities#

    In 2023, several major Chinese cities experienced  a reversal in the decline of marriage rates, attributed to pent-up demand post-pandemic and increased migration. Cities in Jiangsu province and Shanghai reported significant increases in the number of marriages compared to 2022. However, overall population decline remains a concern, despite government efforts, such as increased subsidies and childcare support. While experts anticipate a modest increase in China’s overall population in 2024 due to factors like pent-up demand for childbirth, they caution that reversing the long-term decline in births will be challenging due to low birth rates and a decreasing number of women of childbearing age.

    Prada Group joins sustainability task force#

    On February 19, Prada Group announced  its participation in the industry’s Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) – the Fashion Task Force. By joining the task force, the Prada Group intends to drive change and accelerate sustainability processes. The SMI, proposed and led by the then-Prince of Wales and current King of the United Kingdom, Charles III, at the 2020 World Economic Forum in Davos, aims to unite global forces to collectively address climate change, protect biodiversity, and ultimately achieve sustainable development.

    Asia propels Lanvin Group’s sales#

    Lanvin Group has released  its preliminary annual report for the period ending December 2023: sales increased by 1% YoY to 426 million euros ($476.16 million). Despite challenging market conditions, the group saw sales grow 8% YoY in the Greater China region and the Asia-Pacific market.

    Snow Peak growth streak ends#

    In the 12 months ending on December 31, 2023, outdoor sports brand Snow Peak saw  both sales and profits decline, falling short of expectations. Sales decreased 16.4% YoY to 25.7 billion yen ($234.2 million), ending the previous streak of 17 consecutive years of growth in performance. By region, Snow Peak’s sales in the Japanese market amounted to 17.13 billion yen ($155.9 million), while overseas market sales reached 8.57 billion yen ($78.1 million), accounting for 33.3% of total sales, compared to 29.5 percent in 2022. Focusing on the Greater China market, Snow Peak’s sales in mainland China in 2023 amounted to 1.13 billion yen, approximately $10.3 million. According to the brand’s official WeChat account, as of December 31, 2023, Snow Peak China has opened flagship stores on three online platforms (WeChat, Tmall, JD.com) and a total of 28 authorized stores in 14 cities offline.
