Hangzhou Location Second For MixC, Future Malls Planned For Shenyang, Chengdu And Nanning#

Since opening in Shenzhen in 2005, MixC (万像城) has established itself as the city's top luxury shopping venue. In a city only 30 minutes from both Hong Kong and Macau by boat, it takes a lot to convince shoppers in Shenzhen to spend their money locally, and MixC -- with its Olympic-size skating rink, cinema, and hundreds of boutiques -- has been, more than most high-end Chinese malls, successful in doing this.

Today, after 5 years of planning and construction, China's second MixC shopping mall opened its doors in Hangzhou -- the capital of southeastern Zhejiang province (and one of the country's wealthiest cities). Much like its predecessor in Shenzhen, MixC Hangzhou boasts a world-class ice rink, a high-end supermarket, and boutiques by brands like LV, Coach, Fendi and Dior, but goes a step beyond with an IMAX cinema -- the first in Hangzhou.

Linkshop (联商) attended the opening of MixC Hangzhou, which, along with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, included an ice skating performance by Vancouver Winter Olympics gold medalists Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo. From Linkshop's coverage (translation by Jing Daily team):

Olympic ice skating champions Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo were invited to the opening of MixC in Hangzhou, performing a wonderful skating routine at Hangzhou's only true ice skating rink. The two also received special VIP cards.

MixC Hangzhou covers an area of 240,000 sq. meters, and includes boutiques by many brands that are opening in Hangzhou for the first time, such as Central department store from Thailand, and includes a real Olympic-sized ice rink, an OLE high-end supermarket, the five-star "Broadway" cinema from Hong Kong, a large food court and more. [Additionally,] many top brands have opened locations at MixC, such as Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Dior and Cartier.

MixC is the first true shopping mall in Hangzhou, located in the future Central Business District (CBD) of Qianjiang New City. [It's hoped that] the opening of this new retail development will inject new vitality into Hangzhou.

Although some stores are still under construction (MUJI, Central, Louis Vuitton and others will open on May 1, and the Broadway IMAX theatre will open in June), MixC Hangzhou -- based on photos taken by reporters at the grand opening, at least -- looks to be quite impressive. Despite the fact that new malls seem to open every few weeks in China, it says something when China's Winter Olympic darlings Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo attend the grand opening of MixC Hangzhou.
