Works By Nine Macau Local Architects To Go On Display Starting This Wednesday#

Macau's colonial architecture is one of its strong suits, and though the city's modern architecture is more famous for garish casinos than innovative designs, the Albergue SCM Gallery is looking to change this with a new exhibition, "100% Designed in Macau," jointly organized with the Architects Association of Macau. Starting this week, and displaying works by nine local architects, "100% Designed in Macau" uses one of the city’s preserved heritage neighborhoods as a backdrop. From the Macau Daily Times:

[The exhibition aims] “to promote and nurture the growth of a new generation of local architects” and also to “contribute to the development and sustainability of the community”, as stressed in a presentation release.

Works displayed are from Andrew Kin Pong Leong, Dennio Long Fat Chi, Ellezer Bandonill Villaruz, Hou Meng Chan, Thomas Leong Chan, Victor Ao Ieong, Vivien Fong Wa Kam, Ryan Leong, and Donna KK Wu.

Young professionals born mostly in Macau, these are architects that settled in Macau after receiving their education in diverse countries and are currently working in several renowned architects’ studios, companies and institutions.

Their works “embody their interpretation of architecture language and they let their creativity develop in their own professional style” – as visitors will be able to see in the exhibition.

The exhibition will be free to the public, and run until 27 February at the Albergue SCM Gallery, Calçada da Igreja de São Lázaro, no.8 Macau.
