Following previous mainland China openings in Beijing and Shanghai, this week Mandarin Oriental unveiled its much-anticipated Guangzhou hotel. Located adjacent to Taikoo Hui, the commercial epicenter of Guangzhou (which boasts 358,000 square meters of luxury shopping and office space), the property was designed by internationally acclaimed interior designer Tony Chi. The Mandarin Oriental Guangzhou offers guests the largest rooms in the city, and in all has 233 guest rooms, 30 suites, and 24 service apartments that reflect both traditional and modern elements of Chinese culture.

To please the palate, the Mandarin Oriental Guangzhou includes dining by way of Jiang by Chef Fei, serving the crème de la crème of Cantonese dining, classic grill Ebony, dim sum and afternoon tea spot the Taikoo Lounge, the Mandarin Cake Shop, and nightspot Loft. Catering to the demand for health and wellness services in China, the hotel’s spa features nine private treatment rooms, including two couple’s suites and a VIP spa suite. For business travelers, the hotel offers meeting and function facilities equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a 750 square meter ballroom.

However, Mandarin Oriental’s westward expansion is not stopping in Guangzhou, as the hotelier is slated to open a 320-room Chengdu location in 2015. For Edouard Ettedgui, Group Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental, the new Guangzhou property “presents an ideal opportunity to further grow our brand in the mainland, and we are looking forward to creating the best luxury hotel in this dynamic city, the capital of this important economic and culturally rich province.”
