Chinese Whispers: Valentino Appoints Chinese Menswear Brand Ambassador, and More

1. Valentino taps into the influence of Chinese singer Zhang YixingValentino’s WeChat Account 

Italian high fashion brand Valentino officially announced on January 24 that Zhang Yixing, the Chinese singer and actor with a massive online following, would become its brand ambassador for menswear. Zhang is also the first ambassador for menswear in Greater China.

Zhang Yixing, known by the stage name Lay, began his career as a member of Korean pop band EXO. In 2016, the Chinese performer released his first solo EP, which quickly soared to number four on Billboard’s World Albums chart, making him the first Chinese artist to enter the iTunes Top 60. Zhang previously collaborated with Valentino on a few campaigns in China and was invited to attend the brand’s fashion shows.

2. Luxury hotel Ritz Carlton collaborated with fashion label Etro in China – Fashion Network

Hospitality and fashion are more interwoven now than ever before. From January 23 through February 28, Marriott-owned luxury hotel chain Ritz Carlton will provide guests at its properties in Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu with an Etro-themed living experience. Guests can stay in special rooms decorated with Etro products and designs, enjoy authentic Italian cuisine and afternoon tea sets.

3. Calzedonia, for the first time, introduced a capsule edition for Chinese New Year – Jiemian

The Italian lingerie brand Calzedonia has deepened its ties with Chinese consumers by releasing a special New Year capsule edition for the first time in its history. The company’s leading brands Intimissimi and Calzedonia also jointly hosted a launch party in one of their flagship stores in Shanghai last week.
