Charlotte Ronson Joins Forces with MH Concepts#
After opening two Shanghai boutiques in rapid succession, fashion designer Charlotte Ronson opened her third China location last weekend at Hong Kong's vast Harbour City mall. Ronson's Hong Kong launch included a media luncheon hosted by the designer, as well as a grand opening event and official after-party. Ronson's designs are apparently starting to catch on with young Chinese fashionistas, as she will open another two locations in Shanghai next spring, and is planning additional boutiques in Beijing and Guangzhou next summer. But these stores are only the tip of the iceberg.
Charlotte Ronson’s alliance with Hong Kong and Shanghai-based MH Concepts ambitiously outlines 200 freestanding, mall, and department store shops throughout China, Hong Kong, and Macau by 2014. The partnership allows Ronson to maintain creative control over products produced, protecting the brand’s trademark, yet puts control over expansion in the hands of MH Concepts. Considering we've seen a number of high-end brands, most notably Burberry, buy back control over expansion from their Chinese retail partners. However, as a lesser-known brand, Charlotte Ronson may find that a sustained push into as many markets as possible is necessary.
MH Concepts was founded by Meanne Ho, a fashion industry veteran with over 25 years of experience. Ho recently said she chose to work with Charlotte Ronson based on how her brand would click with the young Chinese consumer.
New York-based fashion designer Charlotte Ronson co-owns her eponymous brand along with company President Aaron Nir. Ronson's success in recent years has been enhanced by design deals with retailers like Urban Outfitters and JCPenney in the United States. After only 10 years in business, Charlotte Ronson is now reaching new markets primarily in Asia, as her China venture with MH Concepts follows the announcement of a Japanese distribution deal with The Wall Co, Ltd.
