Lan Has Quickly Established Itself Among China's Nascent Home-Grown Luxury Brands#

Last summer, China's first truly indigenous jewelry brand, Lan Fine Jewelry, was launched, adding an "Eastern voice" to a Western-dominated luxury industry. Well-known Chinese anchorwoman Yang Lan, known for her European-style professional demeanor, announced at that time in a press conference that she would collaborate with world-famous singer Celine Dion to create a "real" Chinese luxury jewelry brand -- Lan Fine Jewelry, the launch of which was two years in the making.

Reflecting its Chinese roots, Lan Fine Jewelry is designed to display distinctly Chinese characteristics, such as low-profile luxury and attention to detail in both the design and craftsmanship. Even the name of the jewelry is reminiscent of Chinese characters, as we can see in recent collections like "Shang Shan Ruo Shui" ("The highest good is like water"), Zhu Lian Bi He" ("A perfect pair"), and "Yi Pian Bing Xin" ("A Pure and Noble Character").

The Asian essence of this type of jewelry speaks for itself. Among white-collar Chinese women, the target audience, Lan's collections have already taken off. The shining diamonds inlaid in the jewelry emanate taste, beauty and confidence -- qualities that are particularly complementary to Chinese dispositions, and echo the look that modern Chinese female consumers are looking for in upscale luxury products. At the same time, this style of low-profile luxury "with Chinese characteristics" is starting to attract Western attention. It has been reported that England's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla reserved a set of Lan Fine Jewelry's "Zhu Lian Bi He" collection last May.
