Since the launch of its inaugural Shanghai boutique nearly two years ago, we've been fans of the Chinese luxury brand Shang Xia and its very un-traditional use of traditional Chinese materials in its apparel, furniture and jewelry collections. Nearly one year after debuting its second collection, "Human and Nature," and in advance of its upcoming third annual collection, Shang Xia recently held its second "Culture Object" exhibition and released a collectible “Wish” (随意) poker set.
Now, to commemorate the Qixi Festival (七夕节) -- Chinese Valentine's Day -- which falls on the seventh day of the seventh month of the Chinese lunar calendar (August 23 this year), Shang Xia has created a special gold "Dragon Pearl" necklace, an update to the classic design from its first collection, embedded with 191 diamonds. Definitely one of the most striking pieces to date by one of the country's most interesting heritage-infused brands.
