Hong Huang: Chinese Consumers Have ‘Great Eagerness’ To Rediscover Culture

In a new CNN segment, Kristie Lu Stout interviews several top opinion leaders in the China fashion scene on what “made in China” means to them now that we’re seeing the rapid rise of Chinese designers. In the video segment above, iLook editor Hong Huang, Lane Crawford President Andrew Keith, and designer Chris Chang all share their views on the transformation from “made in China” to “created in China,” in the words of Keith. According to Hong, who also owns boutique Brand New China, which exclusively features Chinese designers, Chinese taste is shifting away from Western designers:

“I think for most Chinese, there is a great eagerness to rediscover Chinese culture in many ways: in food, in fashion, in lifestyle, because they have experienced all the wonders that Europeans and Americans have imported into China and this actually prompted them to be more curious about themselves.”
