Peninsula Hotel Boutique Is Danish Brand's First Mainland China Location#

With the world's top luxury brands placing long-term bets on the continued growth of the Chinese luxury market, in recent weeks we've seen a number of new flagship stores and retail outlets opening in China, not only in the country's marquee cities of Shanghai and Beijing, but also in second-tier cities like Nanjing and Xi'an.

This month, Coach is set to open its mainland China flagship in Shanghai, and Ferragamo's Shanghai flagship (also due to open this month) will be that company's largest retail location in the entire Asia-Pacific region. Apparently, in the luxury industry, if you're not opening a new flagship or speeding up the pace of new store openings in China right now, you're missing out.

Looking to catch up with rivals like Cartier, or just establish a stronger brand presence, the Danish jewelry maker Georg Jensen recently opened its China flagship in Shanghai, the company's first mainland location. From the Chinese news portal Sina (translation by Jing Daily team):

The legendary Danish luxury lifestyle brand Georg Jensen is set to open its first flagship store in China at Shanghai's Peninsula Hotel. The opening of the brand's first specialized boutique [in mainland China] marks the century old luxury brand's official strategic entry into the Chinese market.

Customers at the new Georg Jensen flagship will enjoy the most enthusiastic and warm Scandinavian-style service. This type of service is like a whole new style of customer relations: it allows customers to feel right at home, relaxed and free to experience an unprecedented shopping experience.

The concept of Georg Jensen's flagship boutique was developed by the studio of London architect Mark Pinney, and calls back to the architecture and design of Scandinavia.

Within the next three years, Georg Jensen plans to open more than 15 specialized retail locations in China, all of which will uphold the brand's global retail concept -- a luxurious Scandinavian home.
