Foodies Rejoice: HK’s Island East Markets To Take Root Every Sunday

50 Stalls, Organic, Handmade Food & Fun

Island East Markets is now a permanent fixture in Hong Kong

Met with a warm local embrace and instant success upon its initial launch last September, Hong Kong’s Island East Markets pop-up is going permanent in 2013. Helmed by Hong Kong-based writer, editor, and food blogger/critic Janice Leung (Jing Daily Interview) and co-founder Vincent Poon — the man behind Festival of Restaurants — Island East Markets will open its fanfare of stalls every Sunday beginning January 27.

Come Sunday the 27th, around 50 stalls will pop up along Tong Chong Street at TaiKoo Place, Island East, 20 of which will offer fresh, seasonal vegetables, fruits, and herbs galore. The remaining stalls will stock plenty of hot food, baked goods, handcrafted arts and crafts made by local artisans, designers and social enterprises. Market-goers can also anticipate live music by up-and-coming musicians and watch and participate in cooking demonstrations.

In celebration of Chinese New Year, Island East Markets will feature lion dancing performances and more festive fun to ring in the Year of the Snake on February 3.
