Running through July 7 and organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), this week the 18th annual Hong Kong Fashion Week takes place at the HK Convention and Exhibition Centre alongside the HKTDC Summer Sourcing Show. Showing off the spring and summer wares of designers from Hong Kong, mainland China and dozens of countries throughout Asia and around the world, this week's event follows January's successful F/W 2011 Hong Kong Fashion Week, in which nearly 2,000 exhibitors took part. Organizers have said they expect more than 1,700 exhibitors to descend on Hong Kong for fashion week and the summer sourcing show, with the event's seven group pavilions - encompassing mainland China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, South Korea and Taiwan -- likely to be a major draw.

At the grand opening event this week, Benjamin Chau, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, remarked that Hong Kong Fashion Week is designed to promote the work of local designers in particular. Said Chau, "Hong Kong fashion designers are trendsetters who understand the market, making Hong Kong Fashion Week an ideal platform for international business".

Yesterday's launch event, "Into the Light", featured 12 collections by "Hong Kong's New Design Force", the winners and finalists of the Hong Kong Yong Fashion Designer Contest (YDC) from the past two years, including Huang Jinfen (黄锦芬), Xie Guiqi (谢瑰琦), Wu Guoxi (吴国禧), Xian Junjie (冼俊杰), Huang Guijing (黄桂菁), Wang Zhihua (王芷华), Cai Meiyi (蔡美仪), Chen Yongshan (陈咏珊), Ren Minghui (任铭辉), Zhou Yanshan (周燕珊), Deng Shimin (邓诗敏) and "Chewthecud".

Over the course of the next few days, highlights of Hong Kong Fashion Week will include the Stylesight LIVE Global Trend Tour and Mode Taipei's Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Jing Daily will keep an eye on these and other events taking place before Fashion Week's conclusion on July 7.
