Shanghai Event, Taking Place March 17-19, To Bring Together Chefs, Hoteliers, Restaurateurs And More#

Along with rising incomes has come a rising interest in all things gourmet in China: From foie gras, caviar and truffles (both imported and domestic) to fine wine, coffee, and even rare tea. As more middle-class and wealthy consumers throughout the country turn to niche food products, whether organic or gourmet, businesses around the world are eager to cater to this new, but potentially very lucrative, demographic.

Finding, reaching, and supplying China's "new gourmands" is the theme of this year's "Gourmet World Shanghai" Expo, taking place this week from the 17th to the 19th. This three-day event will include more than 80 exhibitors from Europe and Asia, presenting a wide range of products and services that spotlight the newest developments and innovations in gourmet products, wine and spirits, supplies, art, and cooking and pastry schools.

Attendees, who will be made up of everyone from chefs to 4- and 5-star hotel managers to gourmet importers and distributors, will be treated to culinary demonstrations by both Asian and European chefs, giving them the chance to see the products and innovations being featured at the expo prepared before their eyes.

Some of the chefs who will be attending the expo and taking part in live demonstrations include Fabrice Giraud (Jade 36 Shangri-la Restaurant, Shanghai), Stefan Stiller and Bertrand Ducoroy ( Stiller's Restaurant, Shanghai), Ilhame Guerrah, pastry Chef for Shanghai Park Hyatt hotel, Emmanuel Souliere (Executive Chef, Hilton Hotel, Shanghai), Guillermo Trullas (El Willy Restaurant, Shanghai) and Bruno Stril, teaching Chef at Le Cordon Bleu.

In addition to the Gourmet Expo, Gourmet World Shanghai will include the Bocuse d'Or Asia 2010 competition, which will bring together chefs from 12 Asian nations in a "gourmet battle royale."

The second annual Gourmet World Shanghai will take place at the Pudong Expo Center, 201 He Huan Road (at Ying Chun Road), Pudong New Area District, Shanghai. More information is available on the event website.
