Despite Beijing's current push for more modest spending among government officials in particular, sales at shops and restaurants in mainland China increased 14.7 percent from February 9-15, lower than the 16.2 percent rise year-on-year seen last year, yet the spending power of wealthy shoppers was definitely on show overseas during Chinese New Year.
