    Jing Daily’s Picks For Art Basel Miami, Scope Art Fair, and Art Asia#

    Art Basel Miami Beach, now in its ninth year, is the premier art fair in the US, and with auction results showing collectors are in the mood to buy again, galleries are back in town. According to the Wall Street Journal, booth applications are up 20% over last year, and luckily for fans of Chinese contemporary artists, there's no shortage of Chinese works represented. With Chinese contemporary art continuing to draw the attention of art collectors around the world, and Miami Beach being the place to see and be seen this week, here are Jing Daily’s picks for the best places to find top-quality Chinese contemporary art in Miami.

    Galerie Urs Meile operates out of Lucerne, Switzerland and Beijing and represents well-known contemporary artists like Wang Qingsong and Ai Weiwei, as well as lesser known contemporary Chinese artists like Xia Xing and Wang Xingwei. Galerie Urs Meile will be showing “Kui Hua Zi,” a pile of porcelain sunflower seeds by artist Ai Weiwei.

    ShanghART gallery#

    ShanghART gallery is a vital resource for contemporary Chinese art and has locations in Shanghai and Beijing. Representing over 40 artist, the booth will provide a glimpse into the developing contemporary art in China.

    This Art Salon Talk will focus on digital media and will be hosted by Tom Eccles, Executive Director of the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College in New York; Mariko Mori, Japanese Artist; and Melissa Chiu, Director of the Asia Society Museum in New York. The talk will be held at the Miami Beach Convention Center, in the auditorium adjacent to Info Zone D. Access via show floor. General admission ticket includes access to Art Salon.

    ART ASIA#

    The third annual ART ASIA Fair, operating in Miami at the same time as Art Basel, will include a spectrum of Asian artists, both Chinese and other. Exhibiting galleries include the Ullen Center for Contemporary Art, Da Xiang Art Space, and Ethan Cohen Fine Arts. Artists shown will include Zhang Huan, Sui Jianguo, Yang Fudong and Zhang Xiaogang.

    ART ASIA will show a curatorial and educational program that broadens the focus of Asian contemporary art to all regions. Another special project includes a collaboration from video artist Yi Zhou and Shanghai’s Contrasts Gallery and featuring Pharrell Williams, music by Italian composer Ennio Morricone, and costumes by Rick Owens and BBC Ice Cream. The short film, The Ear is inspired by the Nikolai Gogol’s short story, “The Nose” from the Petersburg Tales, and will be presented at ART ASIA.

    Contemporary By Angela Li - Gallery founder Angela Li, baased in Hong Kong, has been involved in art consultancy and art dealing since 2000, and holds inventory from artists ranging from Chen Jiagang, Huang Yan, and Hong Hao.

    Fabien Fryns Fine Art / F2 Gallery - The F2 Gallery, with spaces in Beijing and Los Angeles, aims to contribute to the exchange between contemporary art of China and the West. A recent show in Los Angeles was a solo exhibition of paintings by Zeng Fanzhi, titled “Warhol and Mao.”

    Art Miami#

    Galleries to Look For:#

    Michael Goedhuis - Michael Goedhuis specializes in Chinese Contemporary Ink Painting, as well as Chinese and Japanese Works of Art. Goedhuis will be presenting a work by Li Chen for the Asian Art Exhibit at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

    Pace Prints - Based in New York, Pace Prints deals and publishes in contemporary and modern master prints by American, European, and Chinese artists. Aside from producing prints for artists like Zhang Huan and Yue Minjun, Pace Prints will be presenting a work by Qin Feng for the Asian Art Exhibit.

    ChinaSquare Gallery - ChinaSquare has increased the visibility of Chinese contemporary art in New York since 2002 by collaborating with art historians, private collectors, museums and cultural institutions as well as foundations. ChinaSquare will be showing work by Alex Guofeng Cao in their own booth, as well as for the Asian Art Exhibit.

    Asian Art Exhibit#

    Art Miami, in conjuntion with the Mandarin Oriental Hotel’s 10th anniversary celebration, will show a Contemporary Asian Art exhibition. Curated by Director and Curator of University of Miami’s Lowe Art Museum, the exhibition will feature work from Asian contemporary artists including Li Chen, Wang Zhangxin and Yue Minjun.
