Returning for its fifth year, the Hong Kong International Art Fair (ART HK 12) is set to again take over the burgeoning Asian art hub from May 16-20. Set to be the biggest yet, this year’s ART HK will showcase some of the best contemporary art from 266 galleries from 38 international territories. And with Hong Kong becoming known for art as well as luxury, the official hotel of ART HK 12, the Mandarin Oriental, has put together a special package for guests that’s all about art.

Offered between May 15-20, the Mandarin’s special ART HK package also includes a one-night stay, breakfast at the hotel’s Clipper Lounge or Café Causette, two tickets to the art fair and invitation to the Vernissage on May 16, access to the ART HK lounge and all fair-related events, a bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne and an exclusive edition of the ART HK 12 LUXE City Guide. Naturally, the package doesn’t come cheap: rooms start at a princely HK$4,899 (US$631) subject to 10 percent service charge, per night.

From May 1-20, the Mandarin Oriental will also offer special art-influenced menus at its Michelin-starred Mandarin Grill + Bar. Prepared by chef Uwe Opocensky, lunch and dinner dishes feature themes like Sculpture, Graffiti, Photography, Painting and Music. The three-course lunch menu will cost HK$688 (US$89), while the five-course dinner menu will be priced at HK$1,488 ($192). With the exception of lunch and dinner on May 20, the special menu comes with tickets to ART HK. Reservations can be made by emailing mohkg-grill@mohg.com.

Continuing the art takeover of the hotel, the Clipper Lounge will feature an exhibition by local artist Tang Kwok Hin, in conjunction with Amelia Johnson Contemporary. Raised in one of Hong Kong’s last remaining walled villages, Kam Tin, the 28-year-old Hin has been named one of Hong Kong’s best young artists and won accolades including the 2011 “Young Artist of the Year” award by the Hong Kong Development Council and first prize at the 2009 Hong Kong Biennale. Hin’s show at the Clipper Lounge, “I Call You Nancy,” inspired by Hong Kong life, people, architecture and family records of his fictitious sister, Nancy, will be on view from May 1-26.

Rounding out the Mandarin Oriental’s art-inspired creations, from May 1-20, the hotel’s M Bar, will offer a set of special cocktails created for ART HK 12. “Future” delves into molecular gastronomy, combining hot and cold and re-imagining the Whisky Sour, while “Asia One” brings together vodka, yuzu, lychee, lime and pomegranate and “Art” blends champagne, vodka, raspberry, peach and lemon. Future and Asia One will be priced at HK$120 (US$15) while Art will go for HK$180 ($23). As an extra for champagne lovers, guests who buy a bottle of Veuve Cliquot at the M Bar or Captain’s Bar through May 19 will receive two tickets to ART HK 12.
